We know this because our very own, cohost Titilayo Ellis, experienced a crisis with her daughter just as we entered the holiday season. That's why we thought it imperative to bring in a youth mental health expert to talk about the 'pandemic within a pandemic' where our children increasingly facing depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts at an alarming rate.
Dr. Cherish Williams, licensed Psychologist and the Director of The Cherished Family Center a private practice offering mental health services for families joins us to discuss the increase in mental issues among our youth, lets us know the signs that your child may be suffering (spoiler alert: it's not what you may expect), and gives tips on how you can help your child or teen through these trying times.
Dr. Cherish Williams is a native of North Carolina and a double Tar Heel. She received her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology and Sociology from UNC. She also has a Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.) in School and Mental Health Counseling from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Williams graduated with her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in School Psychology from UNC.
Her professional interests include anxiety, insomnia, depression, racial identity development, mood disorders, adjustment disorders, and familial stressors. She specializes in providing therapeutic services to children/adolescents and their families.
Dr. Williams offers individual therapy, family therapy, and educational consultation to families. Dr. Williams has a passion for helping children and teenagers through difficult times. She aims to help parents increase trust, communication, and understanding of the function(s) of their child’s behaviors.

From George Floyd to Brianna Taylor to Elijah McClain (and so much more), the social injustices of black America have been brought to the surface and propelled into the mainstream. Black Lives Matter protests have gone global. Corporations have chosen to take a stand. And, the next generation of youth is using its voice, and networks, like never before. But as the movement continues many are asking how do we propel real, lasting change? How do we heal an increasingly divisive America?
In this episode, we brought on two of our dope friends -- Taylor Cashdan and Ed Dudley -- who in their own right have been outspoken about social injustices and their thoughts on the responsibilities we all hold in being outspoken and having bold conversations that will lead to real change for black America-- even when it may be uncomfortable or risky to one's brand.

This year is a critical election year with so much at stake, and with voter corruption taking place, hundreds of thousands of voters are being purged without their knowledge. In this episode, we take a deep dive into the importance of this presidential election, local elections, why you should being aware of voter suppression, and why checking your voter registration is vital.
Our panel includes community activists on the ground educating others on their voting rights and helping drive voter registration for North Carolina and beyond.
La'Meshia "LA" Whittington, has made it a personal mission to advocate for agriculture, climate justice, economic justice, rural communities, and communities-of-color. Alongside her brother, they co-founded TW2 Inc 501(c)3, a non-traditional satellite Arts school.
She is also the co-founder of The Scale Academy of Performing Arts. La’Meshia lеаdѕ work nationally in policy/advocacy, community engagement, and rеѕеаrсh on the intersections of human rights, ѕосіаl rights, and еnvіrоnmеntаl juѕtісе, specifically environmental racism present in сommunіtіеѕ-оf-соlоr. La’Meshia is the Deputy Director for Advance Carolina 501(c)4 and the Campaigns Director for the 501(c)3 sister-org: the NC Black Alliance. She is the co-convener of the NC Black & Brown Policy Network, former National Democracy Campaigner for Friends of the Earth and Chairwoman of the FRENC Fund Administration. After coordinating over 250 water and land rescues during the climate disaster Hurricane Florence and coordinating immediate supply drops to residents post-Hurricane Michael, Lа’Mеѕhіа became a founding board member of Democracy Green, a community-bаѕеd disaster relief organization.
Keith Grandberry, is an experienced political strategist and Get Out the Vote (GOTV) specialist that has a wide-ranging experience having worked on national and international strategic political projects. He has worked on the campaign advisory board for President Obama, and consultant for Big Brother, Big Sister of America as Urban Strategist, and former consultant White House Advisor Bob Brown. He has worked as a consultant and advisor on special projects over the years for the family of Nelson Mandela.
He is currently a member of the Leadership Team with Ground Game International LLC— an international political consulting company with a proven track record for providing services for successful political campaigns, issues campaigns, grassroots, canvas operations, and more.
Sanja Whittington, has committed her work to life-long service and environmental justice. Her beginnings as a community organizer, leading efforts to support residents facing houselessness and homeless, providing home care services and coordinating resource drops for elders, to successfully standing in the community and defeating a poisonous dirty corporation who threatened to move in her rural town in Black communities. Sanja serves as the Executive Director of Democracy Green, an environmental-democracy organization that specializes in advocacy and disaster relief. Democracy Green supports a mutual aid site housed in Eastern North Carolina and coordinates supply drops and dispatch during times of climate disasters. Sanja’s proudest achievements are her two children: Robert Jr. and La’Meshia Whittington.

It's Juneteenth, and as we celebrate our black heritage, we also begin the celebration of fatherhood with the start of Father's Day weekend. In this episode, we invited some dope black men to join us and talk about what fatherhood means to them and the importance of being a present father. Our special guests, Rodney Paylor and Reverand Mark Gibson share their personal fatherhood triumphs.
Rodney's fatherhood journey has taken him from teen dad to single father of two boys, all while navigating building a successful office supply service. His fatherhood journey would later include him having a third son where he co-parented for many years and now is full-time Dad to his teenage son.
He has always been passionate about health and wellness and now works in that passion as a well-known personal trainer that specializes in sports training and training those recovering from injury.
Affectionally called, Pastor Mark, Rev. Gibson has distinguished himself as a passionate and anointed preacher and teacher, with a sincere desire to teach God’s word to the lost, hungry, and distraught.
Born and educated in Washington, DC, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC; a Master’s degree in Student Personnel Services from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania; a Masters of Divinity from the Shaw University School of Divinity and is currently working on his Doctorate of Ministry in Pastoral Leadership at Campbell University.
He is passionate about serving the community and is involved in several community organizations in the greater Raleigh area. He is married to the lovely Lady Margo Rice Gibson and the proud father of four sons and one daughter.
